This special coloring book, through both words and pictures, draws upon recent scientific studies, documented discoveries, and credible eyewitness reports to create a brief natural history of the Sasquatch. This work suggests that the Sasquatch (or Bigfoot)* is a large, muscular, bipedal ape-like creature, roughly 6–9 feet (183–274 cm) tall, covered in hair described as black, dark brown, or dark reddish brown, and is a rare Great Ape species native to North America, which has yet to be discovered and officially classified.
This is the realm of Cryptozoology— the study of “hidden animals.” While Cryptozoology is considered pseudoscience or lumped in with the paranormal by mainstream science, paleontologist Henry Gee, a senior editor at the journal Nature, once said of the discovery of Homo floriensis, a small extinct human which lived in Indonesia concurrent with modern humans, “Cryptozoology can come in from the cold.” Folk tales had already described these little people before their fossils were discovered in a cave on the island of Flores.
While most scientists do not recognize the Sasquatch’s existence, it does have its scholarly proponents. Namely, Bernard Heuvelmans (Belgian-French cryptozoologist and author); Dmitri Bayanov (Russian hominologist and Bigfoot researcher); Dr. John R. Napier (British primatologist, paleoanthropologist, and physician); John Bindernagel (Canadian wildlife biologist); Loren Coleman (American author of several books on cryptozoology and notable cryptozoologists); Dr. Grover Krantz (American physical anthropologist and Washington State University professor) and Dr. Jeffrey Meldrum (American anatomy and anthropology professor at Idaho State University), to name just a few.
The brief text and detailed line drawings in this coloring book describe the Sasquatch’s anatomy, behavior, diet, and (most dramatic of all) dangerous and hair-raising encounters with humans! The text is designed to be easily digested by the casual reader, and it is hoped that it will create an interest in the books by the researchers mentioned above for more details about the Sasquatch and other relict hominoids.
